Takht: Karan Johar rewrites Vicky Kaushal

Karan Johar will return to call the shots for his period drama Takht, for which he has brought together an ensemble cast. And if latest buzz is anything to go by then the filmmaker seems to have picked a new favourite from the team, namely, Vicky Kaushal. According to a report in Mumbai Mirror, Karan has rewritten Vicky Kaushal’s role in the Mughal-era film. Vicky, who will play evil Mughal king Aurangazeb in the movie, now has a meaty role, just like his adversary in the film , Ranveer Singh. Seems like the filmmaker is banking on the massive popularity that the Uri actor is currently enjoying. With Anil Kapoor playing Shahjahan, Ranveer Singh portrays his son Dara Shikoh. Earlier in an interview with a news portal, Vicky Kaushal had opened up about his role in the film, “I’m really really excited for the process of Takht to start. It’s going to be a character that’s really going to demand a lot from me and that’s what you live for as an actor. to see life from a different perspective,” said Vicky. Taking about the most difficult part about the film, Vicky had added, “It becomes very difficult to not judge that character, that’s the hardest part to crack, changing your physicality, your language, this, that – you work towards it but mentally to just not judge the character and his actions and intentions and take him as he is and totally believe in it and to say that to yourself that “No, this is right”. That’s the trick and that’s where you want to reach.” Kareena Kapoor Khan has come on board to play Jahanara, Ranveer and Vicky Kaushal’s sister in Takht, while Alia Bhatt is said to play Ranveer’s wife in the film. In a tweet, Karan Johar has described the passionate project as “An incredible story embedded in history… An epic battle for the majestic Mughal throne… A story of a family, of ambition, of greed, of betrayal, of love & of succession… TAKHT is about WAR for LOVE…”

Karan Johar had opened up about the ensemble cast in an interview with Film Companion and said, “It’s an unusual mix of talent. They are actors who have walked the parallel path, we have the superstar dynamic with Kareena (Kapoor), there’s Anil Kapoor who I have never directed before – but each actor fits the part to the tee. It’s not that I have gone to them because I have access. It’s a strange dichotomy. Each one has never played a part like this and yet each one fit it perfectly.” Takht also features Bhumi Pednekar and Janhvi Kapoor in pivotal roles.
